Pumpkin-Carrot Dog Treats

Pumpkin-Carrot Dog Treats are a healthy, fun, and special treat for your favorite four-legged friend.

Today our sweet, sassy, adorable girl turns two! To celebrate our fur baby’s birthday, you bet your buns I baked her some special dog treats, seasonally appropriate of course. Pumpkin-Carrot Dog Treats were a big hit not only with Ginger but with her BFF Matilda too.

And yes, I also tried them, but they’re a bit bland for the human palate. You could make these any time of year, but if you or your dog are feeling extra basic make them while it’s still PSL season.

I MEAN. Just look at this little face ðŸ˜

This is a pretty straightforward recipe. To begin, combine 1/2 cup pumpkin puree, 1/2 cup grated carrot, and 1 egg. Then slowly pour in 1/4 cup melted coconut oil and stir to combine.

Next, slowly mix in 1 cup whole wheat flour and a pinch of kosher salt.

That’s it! You can either scoop the dough into rounds and flatten with your palm or, on a floured surface, spread out the dough and use a cookie cutter to cut into dog bones or any other fun shape of your choice. Note: A liberal use of flour will keep the wet dough from sticking to the counter, and you will probably want a good sprinkle of flour on top too.

Bake at 375ºF for 25 minutes, or until nicely golden and firm. There’s a good amount of moisture in these treats, so they won’t be hard and crispy, but definitely firm—think human cookie consistency.

Once the cookies are done baking, let them cool on the cookie sheet for two minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

If you and your canine companion can contain yourselves, let them cool completely before consumption. Then chow down!

Store the Pumpkin-Carrot Dog Treats in an airtight container in the fridge for a few days. You could probably freeze these too, although I haven’t tried that yet.
